University Canada West is committed to academic governance that incorporates formal and structured input from faculty, staff, and students related to program and institute-wide academic decisions. The Senate’s primary focus is the academic quality of all new and existing programs.

The Senate is the senior academic body of the university. Formerly the Academic Council, it was renamed the Senate in 2023. Among other things, it advises on university academic standards, academic policies, and program approval and review. While business decisions are made by the President in consultation with the Board, the determination that a program meets the academic requirements and standards of the University is that of the Senate.

Visit the Senate Elections page for more information about the elections.

The Senate meets monthly, on the first Thursday of the month from 3 to 4:30 pm. The meetings take place virtually via Microsoft Teams.
