The Library has print and digital materials, along with equipment such as calculators, phone chargers and iPads available for loan to students, faculty and staff. The resource collection is largely comprised of electronically accessible resources covering an array of subject areas, but concentrating primarily within the disciplines of business, marketing, economics and finance. A small collection of print materials is available for loan at both the West Pender and Vancouver House campus libraries.

ABI/INFORM Collection is one of the most comprehensive business database on the market today. Offering more than journal content, this diverse solution provides the right mix of content types to meet the needs of any researcher.

Access Science provides introductory materials for science topics and contains more than 8500 articles covering all major scientific disciplines.

Academic Search Ultimate is a multi-disciplinary full-text database, with more than 10,000 full-text periodicals, including more than 6,500 peer-reviewed journals, as well as other publication types including monographs, reports, conference proceedings, etc. The database features PDF content going back as far as 1887, with the majority of full-text titles in native (searchable) PDF format.

ACM Digital Library is the world’s largest educational and scientific computing society. It delivers resources that advance computing as a science and a profession. ACM provides the computing field’s premier Digital Library and serves its members and the computing profession with leading-edge publications, conferences, and career resources.

Business Source Complete provides access to bibliographic and full-text content in the areas of business and management. This database provides full-text access to scholarly, popular and trade journals, as well as indexing and abstracts for the most important scholarly business journals back as far as 1886. Additional full text, non-journal content includes financial data, books, videos, company profiles, SWOT analyses, industry profiles, country reports, market research reports and case studies.

Canadian Business & Current Affairs (CBCA) Database is Canada’s most comprehensive and diverse full-text online database that combines content from three focused databases: CBCA Business, CBCA Education, and CBCA Reference & Current Events. CBCA Database provides high-quality indexing for over 1,800 publications and full text for more than 700. Broad coverage from a Canadian perspective spans agriculture, business and economics, education, government and politics, health sciences, history, literature, medical sciences, social sciences, and many more subject areas.

Canadian Points of view is a database with articles on over 200 topics of interest to Canadian students. Most useful for students is the way the articles are structured, following the given format:

  • Introduction: gives background information, the current research and suggestions for further reading
  • Point: this argues a particular side of the issue (e.g. “Child labour should be allowed sometimes”)
  • Counterpoint: this argues the opposite side (e.g. “Child labour should be not be allowed under any circumstances”)
  • Guide to critical analysis: what should you look for when evaluating resources on this topic.
  • It also includes an online Canadian Oxford English Dictionary

Communication & Mass Media Complete is the most robust, quality research solution in areas related to communication and mass media. Contains full text for over 450 journals, cover-to-cover indexing and abstracts for more than 750 journals, over 5,400 author profiles, a sophisticated Communication Thesaurus, and comprehensive reference browsing.

Conference Board of Canada contains over 8,000 Canadian research documents in areas such as economics, market forecasting, city statistics, innovation, leadership, public policy, risk management, Canadian Help Wanted Index, and tourism.

Curio.ca is CBC and Radio-Canada’s online subscriber-based streaming service developed expressly for the Canadian educational community. It has content selected for its educational relevance, always commercial-free, including the latest from CBC’s award-winning documentary, news, drama, and children’s programming (e.g. Doc Zone, The Nature of Things, The Fifth Estate and The National).

EBSCO eBooks contains a large selection of multidisciplinary eBook titles representing a broad range of academic subject matter—from business and science, to engineering and humanities. Titles can be downloaded for a determined period of time onto your personal/mobile device.

EconLit is an economics research database containing over 390 full-text journals, including journals from the American Economic Association, the Ifo Institute for Economic Research, and others.

Encyclopedia Britannica provides access to a wide range of topics in various areas including humanities, business, science, and arts. Its content largely includes background information and broad overviews of topics, in addition to the following resources:

Films on Demand is an interdisciplinary collection of over 10,000 academic films available in streaming format; Provides access to thousands of programs and documentaries with English and French-language content. Special features include captioning, transcripts, playlists, and segment indexing. Production companies include BBC, California Newsreel, Films for the Humanities, History Channel, National Geographic, Nova, PBS, and Scientific American.

GuideStar specializing in reporting on nonprofit companies with a specific focus on U.S. organizations. GuideStar lists information on every nonprofit registered with the IRS as tax-exempt. It also contains data on former nonprofits as well as organizations not registered with the IRS but recognized by the IRS as exempt, such as faith-based organizations. The database allows researchers to compare organizations and download key information on an organization’s revenue and expenses, balance sheets, employees, and board data.

Harvard Select Case Studies Collection covers 2,200 case studies selected from their collection of over 20,000. Made accessible to all UCW students, faculty, and staff. That means no need to purchase copies, unlike the other case studies from Harvard Business Publishing.

Harvard Core Curriculum contains 76 readings covering essential business topics, including entrepreneurship, finance, accounting, marketing, operations management, organizational behavior, and strategy. over 8,000 Canadian research documents in areas such as economics, market forecasting, city statistics, innovation, leadership, public policy, risk management, Canadian Help Wanted Index, and tourism.

Hospitality & Tourism is a database containing over 140 active full-text, non-open access journals and magazines, covering all areas of hospitality and tourism, including hospitality law, market trends, food and beverage management and hotel management. In addition, it provides company and country reports, books and newspapers.

IBISWorld is a comprehensive collection of Industry Market Research and Industry Risk Ratings. JSTOR Offers high-quality, interdisciplinary content to support scholarship and teaching. The National Film Board’s (NFB) CAMPUS provides access to thousands of movies, animations, documentaries and other Audio-Video materials.

Nexus Uni is a comprehensive database covering major newspapers in Canada and worldwide, as well as some smaller titles in British Columbia. In addition, it has a wealth of information from legal resources, company information, IPOs, and M&As.

OECD iLibrary is a leading international database featuring books, papers and statistics produced by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). This international collaborative publishes its recommendations and analysis to help inform policy makers, researchers, governments, and analysts to implement change and respond to needs within their countries. This is a key resource for anyone looking for up-to-date social development, sustainability, environmental and government policy information.

PsycARTICLES is a database of full-text peer-reviewed articles published by the American Psychological Association and affiliated journals. Contains over 200,000 full-text articles from more than 100 journals.

Regional Business News provides ultimate coverage for full-text business publications, on a regional level, for the Canadian provinces and the United States. Key resources include newspapers, radio & TV news transcripts, trade publications, magazines and newswires, with full-text content coverage spanning over 22 years.

SAGE Business Cases provides unlimited access to more than 4,850 case studies from over 120 countries and offers focused subject areas including entrepreneurship, accounting, leadership, and more. These case studies are available for free to all faculty, staff, and students.
