
Luis R. Fernandez
Biography:
Luis R. Fernandez holds a Master of Science in Construction Management from the University of Washington and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Guadalajara in Mexico. He has a Project Management Professional certificate from the Project Management Institute and is a Six Sigma Black Belt.
Luis is currently a Sessional Faculty member at University Canada West teaching Project Management.
His teaching style relies on fostering curiosity through practice and experience in a variety of industries like construction, finance and IT.
Expertise and Experience
Prior to moving to Canada, Luis worked in the construction industry developing high and middle rise towers, golf courses, light industrial and infrastructure (roads and water pipe systems) projects. Recently, he tailored his construction knowledge and skills to support the IT sector to sell digital solutions for the construction industry, making construction companies more efficient and competitive with the help of digital transformation.
Publications and Scholarly Activity
Luis was a Teacher Assistant at the University of Washington and a Professor at the University of Guadalajara. As a professor, he developed new courses on Construction Project Management, Construction Scheduling, and System Planning.
More recently he supported collaboration efforts between these two universities to share academic advice and start student mobility.
He has published articles on collaborative sub-contractual practices in the US and all the innovative practices such as Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) and Design-Build.
