Frequently Asked Questions

Many students complete University Access Course (UAC) 030 (Advanced) before starting the next stage of their academic journey. Undergraduate students in our Associate of Arts, Bachelor of Arts in Business Communication or Bachelor of Commerce can start their degree program after completing these preparatory courses.

In addition to meeting the English language proficiency requirements for your chosen degree program, UAP university prep courses will help you develop essential academic skills such as essay writing, critical thinking and research techniques which will streamline your university experience.

You can take either three, six or nine months of UAP preparatory courses depending on your Academic IELTs (or equivalent) score.

The University Access Program (UAP) is accredited by Languages Canada.

Undergraduate students in UAC 030 can take a single quantitative academic course at the same time as their university prep course. Please visit the UAP page for the specific requirements and what academic courses can be taken during UAP.

According to federal immigration legislation and IRCC guidelines, it is UCW’s interpretation, based on the advice of our Regulated International Student Immigration Advisors (RISIAs) and Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultants (RCICs), that, in general, students are not eligible to work during their studies in the University Access Program (UAP).

Each student is responsible for reviewing their individual conditions as stated on their study permit and understanding their immigration status. If you have questions regarding the conditions on your study permit or need personalized advice, please consult a regulated international student immigration advisor, a registered Canadian immigration consultant, or an immigration lawyer. You may also reach out to the UCW International Student Advising team for guidance.

If you prefer, you can contact IRCC directly at 1-888-242-2100 for more information or clarification on your specific situation.
