
Dianne M. Cook
Biography:
Dianne M. Cook has a master’s degree in Translation Theory from the University of Birmingham, a Bachelor of Arts in Honours Linguistics from the University of British Columbia, a Cambridge teaching certificate (CELTA) and multiple certificates in Intercultural Communication from the Summer Institute for Intercultural Communication at Reed College.
In addition to teaching at University Canada West, Dianne teaches Intercultural Communication, Global Leadership, and Translation Theory at UBC and runs an international consulting firm for businesses and private individuals looking to move their intercultural skills to the next level.
Expertise and Experience
Dianne has been teaching, coaching, program managing and consulting for over two decades. She specializes in languages, translation, intercultural communication and conflict resolution.
Dianne speaks varying degrees of English, German, Japanese, Spanish, French and Arabic, and lived long-term in Germany, Japan, the UK, Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, the United Arab Emirates and the United States.
She has worked at Simon Fraser University, Zayed University in Dubai, Abu Dhabi University and the School Board of Yokohama in Japan.
Additionally, she has worked with various government and non-government organizations in Japan, Germany, the UK, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, the UAE, Thailand, the Philippines and India.
Her main areas of interest lie in global leadership, resiliency and mental toughness in people living and working outside their home countries.
Dianne is qualified to use the following intercultural assessment and coaching tools: The Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI), Global Competencies Inventory (GCI), Intercultural Effectiveness Scale (IES), and Cultural Detective.
