David Nesbitt, MBA, BA is a financial and investment professional, with a variety of securities, designations and achievements. He has been awarded a Fellowship from the Canadian Securities Institute and has carried Responsible Officer status for the Investment Advisory, Asset Management and Corporate Finance licenses in Hong Kong. As a Fellow of the Hong Kong Securities Institute, he was recently awarded a Diploma in Company Direction.

David teaches MGMT 661 Strategic Management at UCW.

David’s teachings focus on strategies that have not worked internationally and where corporations may make these strategic mistakes. He also emphasizes the importance of understanding strategic management, specifically how businesses, corporations and governments can make the right decisions on a global scale by working with strategic partners and conducting thorough research.

He also emphasizes that acknowledging the importance of goal setting, strategy formation and implementation, and measurement and control is vital for successful strategies.

David has taught at LBS-HKU-Columbia Business School’s EMBA program and presented as a TEDx speaker. He has also been a keynote speaker at international conferences and addressed various Rotary Clubs on selected topics.

Expertise and Experience

David is an experienced marketing professional who has worked with major multinational companies such as American Express, RBC Wealth Management, CIBC Capital Markets and HSBC Family Office Services. He has spent almost four decades living and working in Hong Kong, where he held various roles in Australasian businesses.

David was also the Executive Director of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and worked for various start-up and early-stage companies in the Trust, Blockchain and Impact Investment industries. Alongside his wife, he founded an NGO (The Nesbitt Centre Ltd) for Special Needs adults 30 years ago, which now has six Social Enterprises in the food and hospitality sector. Additionally, David serves as a Board Director for five organizations in Asia and other international markets.

Volunteer Activity

David Nesbitt has combined a Canadian and international business career alongside serious volunteer engagement with intellectually and physically disabled adults. His experience in international investment and banking firms on the world stage has given him depth in the strategy arena, and his community work for Special Needs individuals has provided an additional element as to where the value of strategic management can offer significant benefits.
