Dr. Charity Yang
Dr. Charity Yang has a PhD in Economics from Dongbei University of Finance and Economics (China, 2003-2006) and a Master's in Economics with a specialization in Statistics from Jilin University of Finance and Economics (China, 2003). She was a visiting professor at the University of Minnesota from 2007 to 2008 and the University of Waterloo from 2012 to 2013.
She joined UCW in October 2021 and is currently an associate professor in the Department of Quantitative Studies, MBA.
Expertise and Experience
Before immigrating to Canada, Dr. Yang worked as an associate professor at the Department of Statistics, School of Economics, Beijing Technology and Business University. Starting her teaching in 2004 when she was a PhD candidate, she gained more than 20 years of experience in teaching. She excels in simplifying complex quantitative methodologies through games, jokes and applets. She taught Statistics, Econometrics, Quantitative Methods, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Excel and Data Analysis to undergraduates, graduates and PhD candidates for domestic and international students in China.
Dr. Yang’s research interests span diverse areas within fiscal policy, energy economics, AI and economic growth, including measuring the effects of different fiscal policy tools, energy price, energy efficiency, rebound effect, carbon emissions and sustainability, and AI’s impact on economic growth. She worked as the team leader and finished one Young Scientists Project of the National Funds of Social Science, China, in 2019, one Young Scientists Project of Beijing Funds of Social Science, China, in 2018, and the Beijing Talent Training Aid Project in 2014. She was also the key team member of three national projects and one provincial project.
She enjoys working with international students. Her unwavering goal is to inspire and support every student to achieve greater academic success.
