In today’s dynamic tech environment, advances in technology lead to new opportunities that didn’t exist before, including careers in trends and breakthroughs like Bitcoin, NFTs and the metaverse.

And BC’s tech sector is evolving rapidly to account for these accelerated trends in the tech industry.

So, it’s no surprise that Vancouver was ranked among the top 10 cities in the world for a career in NFTs and the metaverse, according to a report by MrQ, an online gaming service.

For careers in NFTs and the metaverse, Singapore placed first, followed by London and Hong Kong.

While NFTs and the metaverse may sound like confusing buzzwords, they can be simplified into easy-to-understand concepts.

A non-fungible token, or NFT, is a digital asset that transforms digital works of art, or other collectibles, into verifiable assets.

Through NFT technology, anyone with the financial capacity can buy and sell unique digital items via blockchain technology, including digital drawings, gifs, songs, books and stories.

Many have compared NFTs to the process of collecting fine art but replaced it with digital art instead.

On the other hand, the metaverse is a shared virtual space that is interactive, immersive and hyper-realistic. Oftentimes, customized avatars and digital assets recorded on the blockchain are a key part of the metaverse.

Fundamentally, the metaverse can be conceptualized as a three-dimensional model of the internet.
