University Canada West is looking for current students to help new students get settled into life at UCW.

The Student Affairs department is seeking students interested in being Peer Leaders for its Peer2Peer program for the upcoming fall and winter terms. The initiative aims to assist new students with the transition into university life and living in a new city. Peer Leaders can help them build a sense of community and establish a committed network. Peer Leaders also assist Student Affairs staff in supporting new students as they begin their studies at UCW.

“Peer Leaders are approachable and encouraging student leaders who can effectively support new students and ensure that they receive timely information to set them up for success,” said UCW Student Affairs Manager, Lorris Leung.

The role requires a commitment of at least two consecutive terms and a minimum of six hours per week per term. Peer Leaders will check in with a group of new students regularly throughout the term providing guidance to new students, as well as planning and implementing events for the Peer2Peer program.

“In addition to helping out our newest students, a role such as this is also a great addition to any student’s resumé,” Leung said.

Interested students must have completed one term at UCW, must be a full-time student, and must be, and continue to be, in Good Academic Standing.

Peer Leaders will receive an honorarium, in the form of a tuition credit, per term if they meet all the requirements and perform their duties as specified to a satisfactory level.
