Sophie Farmani
Biography:
Sophie Farmani holds a Master of Science in Management in Sustainability Studies from Ryerson University, an MA in English Literature in 2012 from Tehran and a BA in English Language and Literature 2005 from Tehran.
Sophie teaches Business & Academic Writing at University Canada West.
Her teaching pedagogy is learner-centered as she strives to create a positive learning environment where all students have the opportunity to thrive and become life-long learners.
She speaks English, French, Persian and Turkish.
Expertise and Experience
Sophie comes with a mix of both teaching and industry experience. She has more than 10 years of experience in various business projects in Canadian and international organizations from car manufacturing companies and power plant development and execution to fast-paced IT projects department in the telecom industry.
She has 10 years of experience in teaching different areas of business as well as English as a second language. Sophie has taught Introduction to Business, Business Process Management, Business & Society, Strategic Marketing, Sustainable Tourism, and Human Resources. She also teaches at the School of Business at the University of the Fraser Valley.
Scholarly Activity & Awards
Sophie’s research interests are diverse and include areas in business and English literature, such as sustainability and subjects in contemporary literature and criticism. She is currently writing an accepted article for the International Journal of Tourism Cities.
- 2019 “Tourism Stakeholders’ Perspectives towards Sustainable Tourism in Toronto” presented at the Travel and Tourism Research Association Conference (TTRA Europe) in Bournemouth, UK.
Sophie received an Ontario Graduate Scholarship of $15,000 while at Ryerson University.
