Dr. Issah Gyimah
Dr. Issah Gyimah holds a PhD in Human Resource Development from the University of Regina, Canada, where he also earned his Master of Human Resource Development. Additionally, he obtained a Master of Science Degree from the University of South Africa. Dr. Gyimah is a Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) for British Columbia and Yukon.
Current Academic Roles
Dr. Gyimah currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Leadership and People Management (LPM) at University Canada West. He teaches a range of courses, including Talent Management, HR Strategy, Recruiting & Retaining Talent, and Management & Employee Relations. He’s a Course Lead for HR Strategy (HRMT 623).
Expertise and Experience: Dr. Gyimah’s academic journey is marked by a commitment to excellence and a global perspective. His doctoral research at the University of Regina explored Neoliberalism through the lived experiences of frontline retail workers in Saskatchewan. His current research interests include green and sustainable HR practices, HR analytics, emancipatory HR, and human resource development discourses. He is particularly passionate about integrating Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and Bloom’s Taxonomy in workplace learning through a Chaos Theory perspective.
Prior to joining University Canada West, Dr. Gyimah held teaching positions in Saudi Arabia, South Korea, and South Africa, enriching his understanding of the internationalization of education. In Canada, he has held a training and development position with a union, served as a Mentor and Faculty Supervisor for the University of Regina for three consecutive years, and taught and mentored students at both graduate and undergraduate levels.
Dr. Gyimah has published peer-reviewed research, conducted empirical studies on the implications of stereotyping on minority students, and designed educational programs from an emancipatory pedagogical perspective. His expertise encompasses training and development, pedagogy innovation, and technology use to enhance interactive teaching and learning.
