Dr. Yuya Takeda

Dr. Yuya Takeda is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Arts, Communications, and Social Sciences at University Canada West, teaching courses in Communications and Philosophy. Takeda earned his PhD at University of British Columbia with his dissertation, Illuminating (Dis)enlightenment: Critical Media Literacy and/or Conspiracy Theories? which received Canadian Philosophy of Education Society’s Dissertation Award.

Expanding this inter- and trans-disciplinary work, Takeda’s research projects span the fields of digital media literacy, conspiracy theories, discourse studies, social-political epistemology, and philosophy of education. To date, Takeda has published 18 refereed articles in these areas.

In 2024, Takeda gave a keynote presentation at the Philosophy of Education Society’s annual conference. Takeda is also a member of a Canadian nationwide collaborative research initiative, PhoneMe Project (phonemeproject.com). With the team of researchers and programmers, this project created a social media platform for place-based creative writing, and the team has been conducting various research activities in collaboration with secondary schools, community partners, teacher education and graduate programs at UBC, Queen’s University, and York University.
