
Dr. Savio Lopes
Biography
Dr. Savio Lopes earned his Ph.D. from the University of São Paulo (USP) in the field of Cultural Studies and holds a master’s degree from the University of Ouro Preto (UFOP), with a focus on Language and Cultural Memory. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in Communication.
He teaches Mass Media & Society, Communication Theory, Contemporary Topics in Communications and other related courses at UCW.
Expertise and Experience
His scholarly work centers on materialist cultural criticism, postwar American culture, New Journalism, the Beat Generation and countercultural movements. He is also interested in technology, media and education. Some of his research has been published in books, edited volumes and academic journals. He has received research funding from Capes (Brazil’s Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education) and has presented his work at international conferences on culture, media and education.
Dr. Lopes has extensive experience in academic advising at McGill University and has taught at multiple institutions, developing innovative and participatory teaching methods tailored to students from diverse backgrounds and needs.
Beyond academia, Lopes is a writer and musician, and one half of the experimental music duo The Radio Droids.
