Dr. Paul Fontaine

Biography:

Dr. Paul Fontaine holds a PhD in Communication Studies from McGill University, a Master of Arts in Journalism Studies from Concordia University and a BA in English Literature from the University of British Columbia.

He teaches communications and writing courses at University Canada West.

Dr. Fontaine relates classroom experience to students' lives and helps students see all the ways that understanding how to communicate effectively can benefit them in their personal and professional lives.

Expertise and Experience

Dr. Fontaine was an instructor at Yukon College between 2017 and 2018. He taught at McGill University between 2012 and 2014. He is also an instructor at the University of the Fraser Valley, where he conducted his PhD research.

Publications and Scholarly Activity

He has published in Canadian journals and has co-written a book chapter on the representations of Punjabi men in South Asian-Canadian news media. He has also presented on a variety of topics including, the institutionalization of diasporic identity, the production of diasporic news outlets, and the characteristics of journalism education in Canada.

His current research interests are in the relationships between South Asian-Canadian communities and Canadian institutions, including universities and municipal governments. He is also interested in the experiences of international university and college students in Canada. He enjoys working with colleagues engaged in pedagogical innovation that ensures both international and domestic students have a rewarding and intellectually stimulating post-secondary experience.
