Andrei Balezin

Andrei is a Doctor of Business Administration candidate at the Heriot-Watt University. He holds Master of Business Administration and Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from Simon Fraser University. He also holds a Bachelor of Economics, majoring in international accounting, audit and control.

Andrei is passionate about students’ success and applies student-centric and practical approach in his teaching by connecting classroom learnings with the industry needs. At University Canada West, Andrei teaches business and quantitative courses, such as Business Strategy and Business Economics.

Expertise and Experience

Before transitioning to academia, Andrei built a successful career as a senior commercial banker, supporting Canadian entrepreneurs at every stage of their business journey by providing tailored financial and business advisory solutions. Prior to that, Andrei spent ten years working in China and Hong Kong supporting foreign companies with their internationalization strategies and growth projects.

Publications and Scholarly Activity

Andrei’s research is focused on internationalization strategies of multinational enterprises (MNEs), with a particular focus on examining entry, exit and re-entry decisions of MNEs in restricted markets.

Awards

Andrei is an active member of the community and supports international professionals with their transition to the Canadian workplace by providing career advice and working with the immigrant-serving organizations. Andrei also hold a certified career practitioner certificate from Simon Fraser University.
