Alexander Sakharov
Biography:
Alexander Sakharov received his MBA from Hult International Business School (Boston, MA, USA), where he also was Vice President of Hult European Business Club and one of the coordinators of the Third Hult VC and Entrepreneurship Summit in 2013. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Nizhniy Novgorod State University, Russia.
Alexander is currently an Assistant Professor at University Canada West teaching courses in marketing and entrepreneurship.
Expertise and Experience
Alexander has over 16 years of hands-on experience with for-profit and not-for-profit organizations, including managing his own business. He has worked across multiple industries such as high tech, banking, insurance and retail. During his work with a boutique Russian furniture retail chain, he established and successfully implemented a foundational strategic plan for the company that supported its growth from one store to more than 90 stores across the country. Alexander is also a Co-Founder and Managing Partner for Grizzly Power, a household exterior cleaning and maintenance company.

Alexander’s research interests are entrepreneurship, strategy, consumer behavior, and marketing including digital. Some of Alexander’s publications include:
- Using SWOT analysis for business unit strategic planning.
- The co-authored monograph: Outsourcing as an instrument of Russian retail chains management.
- Methodology for choosing a strategy for the development of business units in foreign markets.
- Portfolio analysis (based on BCG and GE / McKinsey frameworks) as one of the key strategic planning tools.
- The process of applying portfolio analysis to forming a company’s strategy.
