
Tom Chan
Biography:
Tom Chan Master of Social Science from the University of South Australia, an Executive Development degree in HR Visioning from London School of Business and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Ottawa. He is a Chartered Professional in Human Resource Management and a Senior Certified Professional in Human Resource Management with the Society of Human Resource Management. Tom has been a member in good standing with the Canadian Counseling and Psychotherapy Association since 2010.
Tom is currently a Sessional Faculty member at University Canada West teaching Canadian Human Resource Management, Human Resource Management in the Global Environment and Talent Management.
Tom believes that learning takes place in a supportive, non-judgemental and collaborative environment, where learners are systematically presented with concepts or questions that challenge them to consider the broadest possible perspectives and implications, through engaging them in higher order thinking – applying, analyzing, evaluating and creating. He adopts a highly student-centric approach in the classroom, using developing lecture contents, online or offline activities, quizzes or assignments based on what would most effectively engage learners’ imagination, interest and appreciation for the value of knowledge or skills that are the subject of their learning.
Expertise and Experience
Tom has extensive experience in Human Resource Management and has held senior leadership positions at several organizations including Vice President, Senior Human Resource Business Partner at Alliance Investment Bank Bhd. where he managed the team providing HR services in 500 employees across eight business units. He was also previous Vice President, Regional Human Resource Advisor at ABN AMRO Asia Pacific Ltd. and Assistant Vice President, Country Head of Human Resource at ABN AMRO Bank Bhd.
Tom also teaches at Acsenda School of Management, BCIT and HELP University, Malaysia.
