
Tom Chan
Tom Chan possesses a Master of Social Science from the University of South Australia, an Executive Development certificate in HR Visioning from London School of Business and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Ottawa. He is a Canadian Chartered Professional in Human Resource Management and a Senior Certified Professional in Human Resource Management with the US based Society of Human Resource Management. Tom is also a member with the Canadian Counseling and Psychotherapy Association since.
Tom is currently a Sessional Faculty member at University Canada West teaching Canadian Human Resource Management, Human Resource Management in the Global Environment and Talent Management.
Tom believes that learning takes place in a supportive, non-judgmental and collaborative environment, where learners are systematically presented with concepts or questions that challenge them to consider the broadest possible perspectives and implications, through engaging them in higher order thinking – applying, analyzing, evaluating and creating. He adopts a highly student-centric approach in the classroom, using and developing lecture contents, online or offline activities, quizzes or assignments based on what would most effectively engage learners’ imagination, interest and appreciation for the value of knowledge or skills that are the subject of their learning.
Expertise and Experience
Tom has extensive experience in Human Resource Management and has held senior leadership positions at several organizations including Vice President, Regional Human Resource Advisor at ABN AMRO Asia Pacific Ltd. where he managed a team that provided HR services to 500 employees across eight business units in the Asia Pacific region. Prior to that, he was Vice President, Country Head of Human Resource at ABN AMRO Bank Bhd. as well as Assistant Vice President, Senior Human Resource Business Partner at Alliance Investment Bank Bhd.
Tom also teaches at Acsenda School of Management and BCIT.
