Edgar Sanchez has a Master of Science (MSc.) in System Engineering and Information Systems (Distinction) from Simon Bolivar University, Caracas, Venezuela (ICES in Canada), a Management Certificate in Leadership - Managers’ Leadership Development Program, Alberta School of Business – University of Alberta, Yellowknife, NWT, an Advanced Certificate in Geographic Information Systems (Distinction) from British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), a Bachelor of Science (BSc.) in Geography (Distinction) from Los Andes University, Merida, Venezuela (ICES in Canada) and a Diploma in Programming and System Analysis (Distinction) from Jose Maria Vargas University, Caracas, Venezuela (ICES in Canada). He is also an Agile Certified Professional (ACP), Project Management Professional (PMP), a Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), a Kanban Management Professional (KMP) and a ITIL 4 Foundation.

Expertise and Experience

With over three decades of experience spanning diverse industries, including government, energy, engineering, environmental, health, and IT, Edgar brings a unique blend of practical insights and theoretical understanding to his role at UCW. His professional journey has seen him in various leadership positions, such as project/portfolio manager, operations manager, business development manager, senior advisor, and business owner, which has enriched his ability to relate course materials to the challenges faced by professionals in the field. 

Throughout his career, Edgar has also had the privilege of working at renowned institutions, including the Government of the Northwest Territories, Hatfield, City of Burnaby, Vancouver Coastal Health, Halliburton, Schlumberger, PDVSA, and the Venezuelan Navy. His expertise extends to areas such as project/portfolio management, system engineering, geographic information systems, operations management, supply change management, finance, marketing, sales, business transformation, business development, business analysis and change management.

His multifaceted background ensures that his students benefit from a holistic and practical approach to learning, equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in their chosen fields. 

Publications and Scholarly Activity

Edgar’s dedication to academic excellence is reflected in his contributions to the field. He has authored and co-authored several publications, including technological papers, articles, and research papers, which have been recognized for their contributions to the field of system engineering, geographic information systems, project management and environmental impact assessment. He also has participated in numerous conferences and congresses as a speaker and collaborator where his work and technical papers, lessons learned, and best practices have been shared among several professional communities.

Over the course of his career, Edgar has received recognition for his outstanding contributions and leadership. His commitment to excellence has been acknowledged through awards and accolades that underscore his dedication to the fields of project management and environmental sustainability.   • Inspirational Latin Award recognition by leadership and contribution to the Latin Community in Vancouver.

In his spare time, Edgar enjoys outdoor activities, sports, photography, reading, games, traveling, gourmet cuisine and wines, and sharing life and experiences with family and friends.
