Dr. Urooj Malik is a distinguished academic and practitioner with over 40 years of multifaceted experience in industry, research and teaching. His extensive fieldwork across corporate, non-profit, and academic environments provides him with a profound understanding of critical global challenges, which he passionately conveys to his students. Dr. Malik is known for his engaging communication style, effectively sharing insightful narratives that encompass a wide range of economic, social, and environmental issues.

Academic Background

Dr. Malik holds a PhD in Sustainable Development Management from Selinus University of Sciences and Literature. He earned a MS degree in Mineral Economics from the University of Arizona and a BS degree in Natural Resources Management from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. His commitment to professional development is reflected in his completion of certificate programs, including the Management Development Program at Cornell University, Leading Successful Change at INSEAD, and Peace Education for Faculty Training Program at the University of Notre Dame.

He is currently Associate Professor at University Canada West and teaches courses in Sustainability and Finance, Business Economics, Ethics, Corporate Social Responsibility and Business Environment, and Ecology. He is actively engaged in research and service activities focusing on sustainability, Indigenization, equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Expertise and Experience

In addition to his role at University Canada West, Dr. Malik serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of the Philippines, where he teaches and supervises doctoral dissertations on governance, sustainability and development management. Previously, he was a Professor of Practice at Mindanao State University, a Distinguished Visiting Professor at De La Salle University, and a Visiting Fellow at the Center for Global Sustainability Studies at University Science Malaysia.

Before his academic career, Dr. Malik was the Chairman and CEO of a social enterprise dedicated to environmental conservation and livelihood development for Indigenous communities in the Philippines. He also spent over 25 years with the Asian Development Bank, culminating in the role of Director for the Southeast Asia Department, and has served as an international consultant for various global organizations, including the European Union, World Bank, and UN agencies.
