Dr. Tigist Wollelo holds a PhD in Agriculture from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna, Austria, and an MSc in Physical Land Resources from Ghent University, Belgium. She is also licensed in mutual funds and life insurance in British Columbia. Currently, Dr. Wollelo serves as an Associate Professor at University Canada West, where she teaches courses in Personal Financial Planning, Financial Management and Quantitative Reasoning and Statistics. With a strong passion for bridging academic theory and industry practice, Dr. Wollelo brings real-world financial insights into the classroom and actively engages students with contemporary issues in personal finance.

Expertise and Experience

Dr. Wollelo brings over 20 years of international experience across industry, academia and research. She began her academic journey as an assistant lecturer at Mekelle University, contributing to numerous multidisciplinary research projects in roles ranging from team member to team leader and principal investigator. Her academic expertise includes curriculum design, program development and assessment and evaluation at post-secondary institutions. Dr. Wollelo also served at the Ethiopian Agricultural Research Institute, where she led a national research initiative and acted as principal investigator on various studies. Her scholarly contributions include publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at international conferences.

In Canada, she spent over a decade working in the environmental science sector, particularly in ecotoxicological evaluation. For the past seven years, Dr. Wollelo has transitioned into the finance industry, where she skillfully manages client portfolios and supports diverse communities. Her current research interests lie in personal finance, risk management and environmental sustainability.
