Expertise and Experience

Dr. Francis has the unique experience of working at several universities in three different areas – Student Services, the Registrar's Office and as a faculty member. While he has enjoyed working in all three areas, his favourite role is working directly with students as a faculty member.

When working with students, he uses a developmental philosophy looking at the whole student in the context of their life. He goes beyond the material and helps students understand the meaning of the content and how it relates to them. This approach is essential for student development because it creates a shared responsibility for learning and enables students to achieve their personal, academic and career goals, better preparing students for making important life decisions after university.

Dr. Francis has taught at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Simon Fraser University and New York Institute of Technology. He has taught Applied Communications courses focusing on how effective oral and written communication are essential skills for a successful career in business. He has also taught graduate and undergraduate courses in Education.

In addition to teaching in many areas, he has held several post-secondary administration roles, including Academic Advisor, Director of Administration, Deputy Registrar, Department Chair and Associate Dean.
