
Michelle LaPorte
Biography:
Michelle LaPorte has a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of San Diego, where she also acquired her national certification for Protecting Human Research Participants from the National Institutes of Health: Intramural Research Program. She completed her post-graduate studies at Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Michelle is a Sessional Faculty member at University Canada West teaching English 101.
She describes her teaching philosophy as student centred and she has dedicated herself to providing students with the tools for success and holding high expectations so they can reach to achieve them.
Expertise and Experience
Michelle’s professional development is extensive and ongoing. However, some of the most prevalent tools in Michelle's toolbox include skills in blending technology in the classroom, universally designed classrooms, approaches to learning (ATL) skills, transparent teaching and learning, and data-driven and evidence-based decision-making unique to each learner.
While completing her post-graduate studies at Harvard Graduate School of Education was a United Nations Think Tank member hosted at Harvard University on Empowering Global Citizens in 2021. She was one of one hundred teachers and education leaders from around the world who reviewed the United Nation's sustainable development goals, assessed global education practices, and reviewed the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals to devise a curriculum for learners while analyzing vital findings from the PISA 2018.
Michelle has taught in multiple countries and has recently returned from numerous years in Asia, where she taught for a United Nations school outside of Beijing. While abroad, Michelle learned new curricula and teaching methods employed in her teaching today.
Publications and Scholarly Activity
Michelle completed and published her capstone project on "Willingness to Speak." An action research project on pedagogical theory, educational assessment and curriculum theory.
