Dr. Amy Ngo has a PhD in Education from The University of Melbourne, Australia, a Master of Educational Management and Leadership from RMIT University, Australia, a Master of Arts in TESOL Studies from The University of Queensland, Australia, and a Bachelor of Arts in English Language Teaching (English-Pedagogy) from University of Languages and International Studies, Vietnam National University.

Expertise and Experience

Dr. Ngo has been a TESOL lecturer/teacher for over 22 years. She has extensive experience in delivering undergraduate and post-graduate courses in academic English language and literacy, linguistics, second language acquisition, TESOL pedagogy, research methods and critical thinking skills; and developing and renovating curricula for these courses at a tertiary level and deliverable in both physical and virtual learning environments. Prior to her post-graduate study, Dr. Ngo worked as a Senior Lecturer at Faculty of English Teacher Education and held various academic leadership positions, namely Head of School, Deputy Director of Studies (Teaching, Learning and Curriculum) at the University of Languages and International Studies (ULIS), Vietnam National University (VNU). She had seven years experience working as an ELICOS teacher at Monash College, Melbourne, Australia. In Canada, she has been working as an ESL Instructor for the International Language Academy of Canada (ILAC) since 2021 and as an Academic English Language Instructor for Trinity Western University since 2022.

Dr. Ngo’s research, supervision, teaching and engagement are in the areas of TESOL education, curriculum and pedagogy, language testing and assessment, and professional learning. She aspires to support international students’ acquisition of and development in English language proficiency and academic literacy required to be successful in a tertiary environment where English is a medium of instruction. She believes that students learn best through actively engaging in dynamic and collaborative learning experiences and deliberately reflecting on those experiences to plan for future practice and improvement. The most important mission as an instructor is to create such purposeful and inspirational learning experiences to engage and support the students in their journey of self-exploration and self-development as persons, learners and future professionals. Her areas of interests and expertise are TESOL education, curriculum and pedagogy. She has a strong interest in research areas of student engagement and learning outcomes, educational measurement, assessment and scale development and validation.

She looks forward to sharing her expertise and experience with the students and faculty members at UCW as a University Access Program instructor.
