Innovation & Design, Interactive Products & Services Workshop

About the Workshop

In this innovative workshop, students receive an introduction to design, focused on UX and communication design. They will learn about Design Thinking – the visualization and design of ideas in relation to task setting. Design Thinking provides a solution-based approach to solving problems. It is a way of thinking and working, as well as a collection of hands-on methods.

In small groups, students will use Design Thinking methods – asking questions like “how might we…?” and brainstorming – to come up with ideas and solutions for Interactive Products & Services. Subsequently, students will create a concept based on their best idea and pitch it in a 60-second elevator pitch.

After finalizing their ideas, workshop participants will create the first prototype for their solutions. Design Prototyping gives students the tools to develop prototypes of their ideas. We provide the foundation of the systematic tools for this playful and popular design innovation method. In small interviews and user tests, students will assess their prototype’s usability.

At the end of the workshop, every group will have a completed prototype and a 10-minute group presentation, allowing students to get feedback from other workshop participants.

Students will leave this workshop with the skills to generate ideas effectively, produce the first shape of a concept and a low-fidelity prototype, and pitch their solutions convincingly and emotionally.

According to the World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Report, “Germany is the current leader in innovation – in part because of the speed it’s developing new technologies like driverless cars.”

This positions Germany as the top country with innovative design capacity and makes it the perfect fit for aspiring students who are not in the country to be a part of this Innovation & Design Workshop delivered by the University of Europe for Applied Sciences in Germany.

Why study Innovation & Design

  • Design Thinking is an effective problem-solving technique that starts with identifying unmet client demands.
  • A process for innovation comes from that discovery, which includes concept creation, applied creativity, prototyping and experimentation.
  • When Design Thinking methods are applied to business, the rate of innovation success skyrockets.
