Neil Arao holds a Master of Social Work from the University of Victoria, a Master of Arts with Merit from the University of East London, a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of the Fraser Valley and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Simon Fraser University. Additionally, he is a Certified Change Management Practitioner with Prosci and a Registered Social Worker in BC.

Neil employs a range of teaching methods; however, he favours constructivism. He strives to provide practical and meaningful ways to support his students during their learning journeys and promotes dialogue and the sharing of thoughts to facilitate a deeper reflection and integration of knowledge.

Expertise and Experience

Neil Arao is currently the Deputy Executive Director of a non-profit overseeing the Homeless, Housing, Mental Health and Substance Use portfolio in the South Fraser region.

For nearly two decades, Neil has held multiple Senior Leadership positions within the Health Authorities, with a particular focus on the Mental Health and Substance Use departments. Some notable programs that he has had the honour of overseeing include the Harm Reduction and Mental Health Rehabilitation portfolio for the Downtown Eastside, Vancouver Detox and Daytox, Health Justice, Forensic Psychiatric Hospital and the Health Unit at North Fraser Pretrial.

Volunteer Activity

Neil Arao was on the Board of Directors for the Chrysalis Society and the Pioneer Community Living Association. He has also volunteered with the Red Cross and the Vancouver Crisis Centre.
