Dr. Ali Pektas
Biography:
Dr. Ali Pektas holds a PhD in Hydraulics and Hydrological Modeling. He has an MBA with a specialization in Hydrological Modeling from Istanbul Technical University in Istanbul, Turkey.
Dr. Pektas teaches Machine Learning and Business Analytics in the MBA program at University Canada West.
Expertise and Experience
Dr. Pektas has more than nine years of professional experience in teaching and research as a professor at different universities. He has taught different courses in Civil Engineering and Big Data Technologies including Marketing Analysis and Data Modeling, Introduction to Big Data, Time Series Analysis, Data Modeling with SPSS, Environmental Modeling using ArcGIS, Engineering Hydrology, Statics and Strength of Materials, Soil Engineering, Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics and Urban Water Management.
Dr. Pektas was the head of the Big Data Analytics master’s program between 2014 and 2016 and was an associate professor in the Civil & Environmental Engineering Faculty at Bahcesehir University between 2013 and 2016.
He has a passion for knowledge and curiosity, and aims to inspire his students' creativity, develop their critical thinking ability and prepare them for the complex world they will face after stepping off campus. For him passion is one of the most key ingredients of effective teaching. As the field keeps changing, one of the key goals in his teaching process is to provide a framework for life-long learning. To do that he focuses hands on applications of real-life problems in the Data modeling and analytics lessons. He is the author of a best-selling book “Data Mining with SPSS”.
Dr. Pektas is dedicated and self-driven with more than nine years of industrial (As a Data Scientist) and administrative experience in coordinating national and international projects. He currently works as a Senior Data Scientist.

His areas of interests are Data Mining, Statistical Modeling, Time Series Analysis, Demand Forecast, Big Data, Machine Learning Algorithms, Climate Change, Sustainability, Energy Policy, Sediment transport and Watershed Modeling. He has many peer reviewed publications and academic presentations in these areas.
