A scholarship is an award that does not need to be repaid. They are given in recognition of academic achievement or other specified achievements. Each award stipulates different conditions with different eligibility requirements.
University Canada West is pleased to offer the following awards, with the recent launch of its scholarship program. Over time, more scholarships will follow. Students are encouraged to review the different scholarships available and apply for the ones applicable to their situation.
Description: University Canada West (UCW) values the effort and commitment of students achieving high academic standards. This scholarship awards academic excellence in student performance throughout a student’s program at UCW. Applicants will be assessed based on GPA and overall academic performance in his/her last 9 courses completed at UCW.
Total number of awards: 4 Value for each award: CAD $1666.00
Application Requirements:
1)
UCW Student Awards Application Form.

2 recent academic references from 2 different UCW faculty members attesting to academic achievement and commitment including the following: critical thinking and analysis, written and oral communication, effective group or teamwork, contributions to class discussions and activities.
Note: Students must give at least one week notice to faculty members whom they wish to receive reference from.
Eligibility and Selection Criteria:
1)
All current, qualifying UCW undergraduate students are eligible to apply.
2)
Applicants must have completed a minimum of 9 courses at UCW.
3)
Applicants for the undergraduate scholarship will be assessed based on the highest GPA and overall academic performance over the last 9 courses completed at University Canada West.
4)
Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (B average).
5)
Applicants must be in good overall academic and financial standing. Good academic standing equates to a record clear of academic and non-academic misconduct. All financial obligations to UCW must be met.
6)
International students must be in compliance with the terms and conditions of their study permit and student visa.
7)
Applicants who are in the last course of his/her program are not eligible to apply.
8)
Applicants must read and agree to the Terms and Conditions of University Canada West’s (UCW) Student Awards Program as listed at TERMS AND CONDITIONS and understand the nature of the awards and the extent of his/her obligations.

Graduate Academic Achievement Award
Description: University Canada West (UCW) values the effort and commitment of students achieving high academic standards. This scholarship awards academic excellence in student performance throughout a student’s program at UCW. Awards for Future Students
Undergraduate Entrance Merit Award
Description: University Canada West’s (UCW) programs are designed not only to enrich students' knowledge, but to build competencies for scholarship, leadership, and responsible citizenship in a global context. The University celebrates innovation and invites prospective domestic undergraduate students to think about how they can be change agents in their communities. Submissions will be judged by creativity, foresight, and thought.

If you were given an opportunity to spend one year in service to your community or other communities, what would you choose to do? Explain what you would do and why. (800-1000 words).

Applicants must be Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents of Canada.

Applicants are required to submit a letter of intent and resume. Documents that have been previously submitted as a part of the admission application to UCW will be reviewed. Applicants are welcome to send a revised letter of intent and/or resume as part of the Awards Application.
5)
Applicants are required to submit official transcripts from previous educational institutions if they have not been submitted prior to application for awards.
6)
Recipients will be notified by June 1st 2012. Award monies will be disbursed after the recipient’s successful completion of his/her term at UCW with a minimum GPA of 2.0 and upon registration for the second term.

International Entrance Merit Award
Description: University Canada West recognizes the value of integrity and ethical behaviour, while understanding that some decisions are not always the easiest to make. Experiences shape and influence one’s core values. The university invites prospective international students to reflect on a moral dilemma, their decision, and the effects of its outcome. Applicants will be judged on originality, thought, and the ability to demonstrate critical thinking.

Applicants will be assessed based on prior academic performance measured against UCW and Canadian standards. International transcripts and grades will be assessed and converted into Canadian equivalencies by the Registrar's Office.

Applicants must have paid their initial tuition deposit towards their first term at UCW.

Canadian HR Press Top-Talent Scholarship
The Canadian HR Press Scholarship is open to full-time students attending a Canadian college or university and pursuing a Commerce/Business/HR degree or diploma. The Scholarship is based upon academic achievement and Equals6 community participation.

Grade average as a numerical percentage (grade out of 100) which should be for the most recent full academic year.

Michael Hobeck is a business professor at Nova Scotia Community College and this award is presented in his name to the Equals6 community.

The Patrick Hankinson Scholarship
Patrick Hankinson is a high-energy entrepreneur born and raised in Nova Scotia, who successfully developed and published a video game at the age of 14. He is a co-founder at Tether.com and Compilr.com. Patrick is also an active contributor to the entrepreneurial community and this award is presented in his name to the Equals6 community.

Women’s opportunity Awards
The Women's Opportunity Awards program is Soroptimist's major women's education project. Through the program, clubs in 19 countries and territories assist women who provide the primary source of financial support for their families by giving them the resources they need to improve their education, skills, and employment prospects.

Enrolled in or have been accepted to a vocational/skills training program or an undergraduate degree program

Only residents of Soroptimist International of the Americas' 19 member countries and territories are eligible to apply (Canada is included).
The Mensa Canada General Scholarship is an award of $1000, and is offered annually, as funding permits. Applicants are invited to write a short essay in which detail their career plan, list their accomplishments to date, and describe what they plan to do order to achieve their future career goals. The Mensa Canada Scholarship Programme wishes to reward students who follow through with their career strategy.

Applicants must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants enrolled in a full-time program at a Canadian post-secondary institution, accredited by the applicable provincial Ministry of Education, during the 2011 - 2012 academic year.
Retail Council of Canada, in partnership with industry sponsors, will award more than $80,000 in scholarships and benefits to students entering or currently enrolled in a business, marketing or retail-related program at a Canadian post-secondary institution.
Students who receive the scholarships will not only benefit from financial assistance for their post-secondary education, but will also attend STORE 2012 in Toronto where they will have the opportunity to engage with the brightest professionals in the Canadian retail industry.

Indspire: First Nation, Inuit & Métis Post Secondary Education Bursary Award
Indspire is a charitable organization dedicated to raising funds to deliver programs that provide the tools necessary for Indigenous peoples, especially youth to achieve their potential. Through the Indspire’s education program financial support is provided to First Nations, Inuit and Métis individuals who are pursuing education and professional development.
Criteria:

Studying in the fields of business, commerce, science, law, engineering, information technology, education, social work and social sciences

A Canadian resident Indigenous Individual who is First Nation (as recognized by the Federal Government), Inuit or Métis status
