University Canada West is pleased to announce that Sheldon Levy has been appointed UCW President and Vice-Chancellor, and Dr. Maureen Mancuso has been appointed Vice President Academic.

Both President Levy and Dr. Mancuso have had the “interim” designation removed from their titles.

President Levy joined UCW in September 2021 as Interim President and Vice-Chancellor and has since led the University with his wealth of experience and an impressive track record of leadership.

He is a well-known name in higher education and was named an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2020 for his exceptional leadership as an education administrator and for promoting student entrepreneur incubators on university campuses across the country.

In addition to this, President Levy has extensive experience in senior leadership positions at post-secondary institutions. He served as President and Vice-Chancellor of Ryerson University; President of Sheridan College of Applied Arts and Technology; Vice-President, Finance and Strategy, at University of Ontario Institute of Technology; Vice-President, Government and Institutional Relations, at the University of Toronto; and Vice-President, Institutional Affairs, at York University.

Dr. Mancuso is a former professor of political science and seasoned academic administrator with more than two decades of experience in senior roles in higher education. As Provost and VP Academic at the University of Guelph (11 years) and Wilfred Laurier University (one year, interim), she led significant initiatives to reimagine the undergraduate learning experience, reform and integrate institution-wide integrated planning and budgeting, learning outcomes assessment, establish a new pathway program for international students and lead institutional responses to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As a Policy Fellow for the Council of Ontario Universities, she worked on projects related to assessment, teaching and learning metrics and educational productivity. With research specialties in the study of corruption, scandal and political ethics, she has a doctorate from the University of Oxford and has won several teaching awards, including a 3M Fellowship, Canada’s highest recognition of teaching excellence.

Dr. Mancuso has authored four books, numerous articles, chapters and conference presentations and served as a consultant to federal and provincial governments. She co-led the Senior University Administrators Course for four years and is currently a co-principal of a coaching and leadership development program for new senior academic administrators.
